Meet our Commentators:

Tim Barber, Co-founder and Principal at Bluesky has lived and worked in Ottawa for over 30 years – a combination of public service, political staff and consulting. He has great networks in government and the policy community. Tim has a strong understanding of the political decision-making, contemporary Canadian political history, aerospace and defence procurement, energy, healthcare, financial and transportation sectors. Susan Smith, Co-founder and Principal at Bluesky, has provided senior private and public sector clients with strategic communications, lobbying and public affairs and media relations advice and training for more than 25 years. Neil Brodie, Vice President, joined Bluesky after three years at the Ontario Energy Board. He has a decade of experience advising key decision-makers in Ottawa during the Harper government and was Chief of Staff to three ministers. He worked on the Leader’s Tour for four national election campaigns, travelling across the country working with the leader, local candidates and volunteers. Neil’s public policy background includes procurement, trade, public safety, industry, finance and energy. @neilbrodie

Hon. Joe Jordan, P.C., Senior Associate, joined Bluesky following a political tenure as the Liberal Member of Parliament for the riding of Leeds-Grenville in Eastern Ontario (1997-2004). During his time on Parliament Hill, he was the former Parliamentary Secretary to Prime Minister Jean Chrétien, former Parliamentary Secretary to the President of the Treasury Board and in 2003 was sworn to the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada. Joe has also held membership on the Heritage, Environmental, Procedure & House Affairs, Public Accounts and Government Operations & Estimates Standing Committees of the House of Commons. Joe has been successfully representing a diverse range of clients for the last twelve years, including national associations, non-profits, global energy leaders and international financial services companies. His unique combination of business, government and communications experience results in objectives and implementation strategies that build consensus and align interests. A regular contributor to The Hill Times, he writes and speaks extensively on the relationship between business and government.

Lt.-Gen. (Ret’d.), the Hon. Andrew Leslie, PC, CMM, MSC, MSM, CD, MA, Senior Associate, joined Bluesky after a decorated 35-year career with the Canadian Armed Forces which includes international peacekeeping and combat tours (including the most recent Afghan war) with both the UN and NATO, as well as helping Canadians at home with floods, forest fires and the 1998 ice storm. He was also co-chair of the Liberal International Affairs Council of Advisors and the Liberal Member of Parliament for the riding of Orléans, elected in the 2015 federal election. During his time on Parliament Hill, Leslie also served as the Chief Government Whip and then Parliamentary Secretary focused on the Canada-U.S. relationship, interacting with business leaders and elected officials at federal and state levels and establishing Canada’s place in the world through international trade and cybersecurity. Geoff Turner, Senior Consultant, joined Bluesky following an extensive career at Queen’s Park in Toronto, where he served as a key political advisor to senior provincial ministers. Having years of hands-on experience with cabinet, caucus and opposition members, legislative and cabinet committees, executive and front-line political staff, and working with a host of senior public servants, media and stakeholders, Geoff brings a wealth of knowledge and understanding about the politics, policy, communications and decision-making processes at work inside and around government. Cameron Holmstrom, Consultant, joined Bluesky after nine years working with the federal NDP Caucus, including three Members of Parliament. He has worked on more than a dozen campaigns at the federal, provincial and municipal levels over the past 14 years, including three NDP leadership campaigns. A Métis citizen, Cameron has served as policy and communications director of the federal NDP’s Aboriginal Peoples Commission; and was founding co-chair of the Ontario NDP’s Aboriginal Peoples Committee. Since joining Bluesky has since supported clients in a range of sectors, including agricultural, FinTech, information technology and non-profits. Cameron can be heard frequently on SiriusXM's Canada Talks 167 and 580 CFRA. Cameron is available for commentary in both English and French. @CamHolmstrom

Hussain Shorish, Consultant, joined Bluesky Strategy Group in 2018 and is knowledgeable in the areas of defence, immigration, international affairs, education and non-profit. Prior to joining Bluesky, Hussain worked for over five years in the federal public service, particularly in operational, strategic and program policy. He was part of the team that managed Canada’s response to irregular migration at Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, and held the pen on Employment and Social Development Canada’s regional workforce renewal strategy for Quebec. During the recent election campaign, Hussain appeared on CBC News Network and is available for commentary in both English and French. @HussainShorish
