Geoff joined Bluesky Strategy Group in May 2018, following an extensive career at Queen’s Park in Toronto, where he served as a key political advisor to senior provincial ministers. Having years of hands-on experience with cabinet, caucus and opposition members, legislative and cabinet committees, executive and front-line political staff, and working with a host of senior public servants, media and stakeholders – Geoff brings a wealth of knowledge and understanding about the politics, policy, communications and decision making processes at work inside and around government.
As a Senior Policy Advisor to the Ontario Minister of Finance, Geoff managed high profile policy files and issues. These included cannabis legalization and alcohol market reforms, as well as central agency oversight and liaison responsibility for provincial Health, Social, Education and Justice sector ministries. His work specifically involved crafting and guiding the government narrative in high-profile sections of the 2017 Ontario Budget, including the document’s focus on expanded healthcare funding and public pharmacare for children and youth.
With the Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services, Geoff managed critical files including First Nation policing, fire services and emergency management, #TO2015 PanAm Games security, animal welfare; and, for the Minister of Labour, workplace safety, labour tribunals and minimum wage review. Prior to his ministry roles, he served as an Executive Assistant to one of the most active MPPs at Queen’s Park, and all told has been involved in the development and passage of over ten pieces of provincial legislation during his career.
Long active in politics, Geoff has been a past candidate for the Liberal Party of Canada in 2006, has held senior full-time campaign team roles in four elections, and been a volunteer on over fifteen others, provincial and federal.
Geoff has a degree in political science from Wilfrid Laurier University, and an unremarkable stint on the varsity football team. He also embarked on an around-the-world solo backpacking trip through two dozen counties, rounding his exposure to the world we live in. In his spare time, Geoff is an avid skier and snowboarder (likes cats and dogs), and is deeply committed to exploring nature through backcountry canoe tripping with his spouse.
